Magneto has the ability to utilize magnetic fields. The Earth's magnetic fields curve inwards at the poles, and are not actually present above a portion of the land there. Is Magneto powerless at the poles?

http://www.weirdspot.com/index.php/weblog/monkeys_beat_up_trainer_with_his_own_stick/

Angry monkeys turned on their trainer - and beat him senseless with his own stick. The enraged primates struck back after their owner handed out a vicious beating to one of the trio during a performance in which they rode mini bicycles in a market in Sizhou, eastern China.

While one monkey twisted their cruel master’s ears, another pulled his hair out in handfuls and bit his neck.

Then, when he dropped his cane, the third snatched it up and began beating the trainer around the head until he broke the stick.

The dazed trainer confessed: “They were once wild and these performances don’t always come naturally to them. They may have built up some feelings of hatred towards me.” Now police are investigating allegations of animal cruelty and may confiscate the monkeys.

This is the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life today. Sorry, Leo, it isn't a real commercial. It's funny as shit anyway.

Jazzy would like you to know that she needs something else to read, as she has finished her current book. The birthday of a certain invisible man in the sky's bastard half-human offspring is coming up, and it would be the perfect opportunity to buy her something. She would be grateful.

Roger Ebert reviews Ben Stein's piece of crap Expelled
This film is cheerfully ignorant, manipulative, slanted, cherry-picks quotations, draws unwarranted conclusions, makes outrageous juxtapositions (Soviet marching troops representing opponents of ID), pussy-foots around religion (not a single identified believer among the ID people), segues between quotes that are not about the same thing, tells bald-faced lies, and makes a completely baseless association between freedom of speech and freedom to teach religion in a university class that is not about religion.

09:44 pm - dear people who I respect as being intelligent:
"Beg the question" does not mean "ask the question." Stop using it as such.

A hieroglyph is a symbol. Hieroglyphic is an adjective, as in "the hieroglyphic writing was found on the temple wall." Hieroglyphic is not a noun, as in "the hieroglyphic was found on the temple wall." Stop using it as such.

That is all for now.

Ginkgo proves ineffective in preventing dementia, Alzheimer's

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/scienceblogrssfeed/~3/PeTIuAI3ysk/ginkgo-proves-ineffective-preventing-dementia-alzheimers-17824.html

One of the most widely used herbal supplements for improving memory and cognition has no impact on the development of dementia or Alzheimer's disease, according to new results from a $30 million, multi-center study.

Also my wife is funny. We were watching Alexander, and the scene where he rides into Babylon came on. We were looking at the CGI version of the city, and I said that I wanted to live there. She said, "nuh uh. It looks like crap and was probably covered in pee." I'm so proud that she pays attention to the boring crap I try to teach her.

This may be of interest to those of you who are in Tejas.

http://www.theskepticsguide.org/sgublog/?p=375

Tomorrow, several of us are going to testify at the State Board of Education hearings over the revising of the science standards. This happens once every ten years, and since Texas is an adoption state for textbooks, it effects more than just the schools in Texas. They are attempting to keep language in the standards that allows teachers to teach the alleged “strengths and weaknesses” of scientific theories. As you know, this is a bogus concept, and they are only interested in teaching the alleged “weaknesses” of just a single theory of science.

77 total yards
31 passing, 67 on the ground
Russell, our quarterback, had twice as much rushing yardage as the running back.
14:45 time of possession

77 yards? That has to be some sort of record. 30 offensive plays? Jesus.

At least Denver and KC lost too.

Maybe I'll become a Jets fan....

nah

At least I'm still undefeated in my main fantasy football league. I rule at imaginary sports!

I don't understand when people make a post to a community and include somewhere that if the post isn't appropriate, the mods are welcome to take it down. Really? You are giving the moderator of a community permission to remove a post in her community? How kind of you. Sometimes it is phrased to read that the OP will remove it himself. This is marginally better, but it is still suggesting that it's OK for the mod to want the post removed. Just read the rules first. It's not that difficult.

Also, stop posting "go easy on me" or "I know I'm ugly, you don't have to tell me" when posting pictures. It's just silly. The intent is to avoid being told negative information about one's physical appearance, and it stems from having low self confidence. It's like when you ask if you look fat in a certain pair of jeans. You don't actually want to know whether or not they make you look fat. You want to be told that they don't. In the same way, you aren't asking people to avoid commenting negatively. You are fishing for positive comments. If you just post the damned picture, you'll get positive comments. Everyone always does. Fishing for comments just lets everyone know that you have no self esteem.

And if it somehow does work, and you never get any negative comments when you post pictures, all it's going to do is give you a false sense of security, which will be ripped to shreds like a hymen after the homecoming dance, when someone in the real world says the slightest thing. Better to grow a spine and learn how to handle social interaction.

And please, go easy on me if you respond.

So, my cousin is still sending me political/racist/religious chain spam email. A couple of weeks ago she sent one which supposedly outed Obama as a Muslim and had several quotes allegedly spoken or written by him. After checking snopes and a couple of other sites, I decided she was once again full of shit, and emailed her, including a link to the snopes article in which the email was debunked. I don't know if it took her two weeks to research this, or if she got more juicy email and decided to pass it along, but yesterday she sent me this.

I need to know if she really thinks dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago. That's an important... I want to know that. I really do, because she's going to have the nuclear codes.

Hooray for four-day weekends. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. Well, I do: read, sleep, have sex, eat, and smoke. We're getting our new bed tomorrow. That's going to be nice. We have to buy sheets for it in the morning. Maybe we can buy some bread too, probably not at the same place though. I'll trade a hamburger patty and some fries for some bread or buns right now. I'm starving.

Remember: Be sure to point out how low your self esteem is when you post pictures, so everyone will feel pressured to tell you how good you look. It works every time.

Woo. We finally bought a queen bed today! Now we have room for the two of us and the cats at the same time.

I also discovered Sonic's apple juice slushes. I know one of you works there. Why didn't you tell me about these sooner? :P

If the Rwenzori Mountains lose their glaciers, will the Nile run dry part of the year?

I demonstratively crushed both of my opponents in fantasy football this week. Henceforth I shall be known as Graey Victrix.

We've got videos of Buzi eating, but they have not been uploaded yet.

I've decided that my favorite sandwich is a BLT. I rarely have them, because we usually don't have lettuce. Sometimes we have bagged salad, though, and if I think about it, I make a BLT. When we go to sub places, I usually get one. If you ever want to surprise me with a sandwich, go with the BLT, and lots of pepper.

I was thinking of starting a skeptical community, but that's more work than I'm going to want to do after a few days. Someone else should start one, and I'll join. Or maybe I'll just continue to laugh at you all to myself.
